Somewhere in the 70s during a vacation on Mallorca
we visit subterranean caves. Mom, dad, and 5 year old son. We enter a big vault
with an amphitheatre and the guide invites the visitors to sit on the benches.
The stage in front of us are two caverns and a little river where the water
ripples softly from the left to the right. The lights dim, finaly complete
darkness and the show starts. A little rowing-boat lighted by a Chinese lantern
appears and the oars make no sound at all. On the boat a harmonium- and a
celloplayer as well. They start to play softly the Solveig's song from Edvard
Grieg. Among the spectators respectfully silence, untill very impressed my son
wispers: "are we in heaven now?"
The Solveig's song knows a version with lirics and has been performed
during his funeral . Searching music for the funeral I choose this song
also and I saw for the first
time in my life the (german) lirics. These lirics and the link to the words of
my son in the caves break my heart every time when I listen to the Solveig's
song.
Read the lirics in the English version of the song.

The winter may pass and the spring disappear The spring disappear The summer too will vanish and then the year And then the year But this I know for certain: you'll come back again You'll come back again And even as I promised you'll find me waiting then You'll find me waiting then Oh-oh-oh .... God help you when wand'ring your way all alone Your way all alone God grant to you his strength as you'll kneel at his throne As you'll kneel at his throne If you are in heaven now waiting for me In heaven for me And we shall meet again love and never parted be And never parted be! Oh-oh-oh .... |
I made this page on Friday 13 December 2002 (Friday the 13th) My son died as only child on Friday the thirteenth of December 1985. And you know what? From that time the number 13 and also Friday the 13th have always been good to me in many ways. Hopefully my dear son once will explain to me why!
